Reduce the background noise of a video
A fan, an air conditioner, wind or a noisy room can ruin a good recording. This tool estimates the steady noise and takes it down, so the voice comes through. The picture is not re-encoded.
How to reduce the noise
- Add your video, or up to five at once.
- Choose a strength. Start with Balanced.
- Press Reduce the noise and listen to the result before downloading.
What the three strengths do
The tool analyses the sound, estimates the part that does not change much from moment to moment — the hiss of a fan, the hum of a fridge, wind on a microphone — and lowers that part while leaving the rest alone.
| Strength | Best for | What to watch |
|---|---|---|
| Light | Recordings where the noise is already faint | Almost no effect on the voice |
| Balanced | Most phone interviews, vlogs, lectures | Good starting point for any file |
| Strong | Very noisy rooms, loud air conditioning | Voices can sound thin; quiet sounds may disappear |
All three work on the whole soundtrack, not on selected moments. If the result sounds hollow or metallic, come back one step: Strong is easy to overdo.
When it works well, and when it does not
Steady noise is the easy case: fans, ventilation, a computer, a fridge, distant traffic, a constant hiss. The filter needs a moment of that noise to measure it, which is why a clip that starts with a second of room tone cleans up better than one that starts mid-sentence.
Uneven noises are harder. A dog barking, a door slamming, cutlery, a crowd talking at different levels: those are not a steady background, and no single filter can separate them from a voice reliably. Wind is somewhere in between — it can be reduced, but a gust that saturates the microphone has already destroyed the sound and cannot be restored.
On music, be careful. A denoiser cannot tell a quiet cymbal from hiss, so it can dull the high end. If your video is mostly music, use Light, or skip this tool and just adjust the level instead.
After the cleanup
Removing noise also lowers the overall level a little. If the result sounds quiet, run it through Change video volume and pick Normalize: it brings the whole video to a standard loudness without pushing anything into distortion. Then, if you need a smaller file, Compress video works on the cleaned version just as it would on the original.
The picture is not touched: for most phone and camera videos it is copied as it is, and only the sound is processed. That also means the operation is quick, and repeated passes do not pile up video quality loss.
What happens to your file
The video is uploaded, processed on the server and deleted as soon as the job ends. The result is deleted within the hour. No account, no watermark, no email needed.
Questions about Reduce background noise
Will it remove a barking dog or people talking?
No. The tool targets steady background noise such as fans, ventilation, wind and hiss. One-off sounds and other voices are not a constant background, so they mostly stay.
Does it change the picture?
No. The video stream is copied as it is for most formats; only the audio track is processed and re-encoded.
Why does the voice sound thin afterwards?
Strong removes a wide band of the sound, and part of the voice lives there too. Try Balanced, or Light if the noise is not that loud.
Should I use this on music?
Use Light, or not at all. A denoiser treats quiet instruments as noise and can dull the sound.
Can I clean several videos at once?
Yes, up to five. They all get the same strength and you can download the results as a ZIP.
Is the tool really free?
Yes, with no account. The only limits are the file size and the video length shown above the drop zone.
