Trim a video
Keep only the part you want. Play the clip, set the start and end from the playhead or type the times, and download the shorter video.
How to trim a video
- Add your video. A preview appears in the viewer.
- Play or scrub to where the clip should begin and press Use playhead next to Start. Do the same for End. You can also type the times.
- The amber markers on the timeline show what you will keep.
- Choose Frame-accurate or Fast, press Trim video, and download.
Frame-accurate or fast?
Compressed video stores a full picture only every so often, at a keyframe. The frames in between only describe what changed. That matters when cutting:
- Frame-accurate decodes the video and re-encodes the part you keep, so the cut lands exactly on the time you chose. It takes longer and outputs MP4.
- Fast copies the original data without re-encoding. It finishes in seconds and keeps the original quality and format, but the start snaps to the nearest keyframe before your time. On phone videos that is usually within one or two seconds.
For social clips and anything where the first frame matters, use frame-accurate. For removing a long silent stretch at the end of a recording, fast is ideal.
Typing times
Times accept plain seconds (95), minutes and seconds (1:35), or hours, minutes and seconds (0:01:35). Decimals are allowed for precise cuts (1:35.40). Leave End empty to keep everything from Start to the end of the video.
Questions about Trim video
Why does my fast cut start a little early?
Fast cuts cannot start between keyframes without re-encoding, so they start at the keyframe just before your time. Switch to “Frame-accurate” for an exact start.
Can I remove a section from the middle?
Not in one step yet. Trim the two parts you want to keep as separate clips, then join them with Merge videos.
Does trimming reduce quality?
Fast cuts don’t touch the image at all. Frame-accurate cuts are re-encoded at high quality, which is very hard to tell from the original.
What is the longest video I can trim?
The source can be up to the duration limit shown in the upload box. The trimmed result can be any length within it.
